Shawn's fitness journey began with CrossFit and about 35+ extra pounds around his mid-section. After experiencing how amazing living a healthy lifestyle can be, he decided to share it with others, and became a personal trainer. Quickly branching out into group exercise, Shawn's "healthy obsession" with all things fitness pushed him to expand his repertoire to teaching bootcamps, yoga, Zumba, and CrossFit among other things. His newest obsession is the megaformer where he spends countless hours with his private clients, as well as, "feeling the burn" himself.

When Shawn isn't on the megaformer with the ramp set on 5, or lifting heavy weights, you can expect to see him doing a random cha cha cha through the gym or bursting out into spontaneous song. He has his NASM CPT and Fitness Nutrition Certifications, and well as his CrossFit Level-1, Zumba B-1, and most currently, the Lagree Fitness Certification. 


Devin Maier

Devin Maier

Devin Maier was born and raised in the heart of DC, and fitness and fun have been flowing through his veins since his mom made him work out to her Jane Fonda records in the late 80's. As a former wrestler and football player, he believes in strength and flexibility as the foundations of all healthy bodies, and he has close to two decades of experience proving that to be the case. When he's not making people sizzle on a Megaformer, you can probably find sweating in a squat rack or paddling the Potomac looking like Poseidon.

Micha (Mee-ka) Shines is a trainer, dancer, ultramarathoner, Marine, and mom of 4 who swears by the Megaformer! She will have you moving with grace and good form while motivating you to "make it burn" with her high energy style, infectious music and some good old fashioned Marine Corps badassery!

Laura Wong is a native So Cal girl—born and raised in LA. She was born into the world of dance and sports. Laura knew she found a new inspiration and passion from the very Lagree Fitness class she took! It was the love of intense workouts that inspired and motivated her to become a Lagree trainer. She has been coaching Lagree classes for the past 5 years in LA and SF. Laura strongly believes in cross training Lagree Fitness with all other types of sports and fitness. She swears that it will take your athletic performance to the next level! When Laura isn't practicing Lagree Fitness, you can find her in bootcamp classes, running, cycling or on some other venture to spice up her workout routine! Laura works full-time as a business professional and understands the challenges of time management and fitting exercise into a daily routine. Because of this, she does all she can to make the most of her clients’ time! Laura's clients have come to expect a guaranteed fun-filled, heart-racing sweat session, topped off with everlasting endorphins! Laura believes working out to the right music MAKES the CLASS. She blasts hip hop, pop, dance, all the mainstream top 40 hits and some classics to PUMP it up! Her music is loud but her voice is LOUDER, her class is fast paced and guarantees to kick your tush! Come test your limits with Laura!

Kathryn is straight up in love with teaching fitness, and she is committed to bringing out the extraordinary in all of her students. Filled with what seems like limitless energy, Kathryn teaches Balance Burn and Barre and also works as a professional actor, dancer, choreographer, and life coach. When she's not dreaming up impossible megaformer workouts, Kathryn spends her down time training in trapeze and aerial dance.  #WhyNotBeAMAZING

 


Kate Garufi

Since the age of 5, Kate has been a certified sports junkie.  Growing up, she excelled in the sports of soccer, basketball, and swimming.  After a brief hiatus to focus on her engineering education, she returned to competitive fitness and since 2011, has coached and competed in CrossFit.  After "retiring" from CrossFit competition in 2016, she was looking for a new challenge.  Enter BalanceBurn.  Ask Kate and she will tell you that BalanceBurn is an amazing complement to any fitness routine and is both challenging and rewarding for EVERY athlete.  BalanceBurn provides any level of athlete a workout routine that develops flexibility, muscle endurance, and aerobic capacity.  She is a junkie for any movement that works the "little muscles" (read:  standing inner thigh).    

When she is not traveling the country cleaning up the environment, you can find Kate at a number of Balance locations coaching CrossFit or BalanceBurn.  If she isn't coaching, you can find her in the gym lifting weights, CrossFitting, or feeling the burn on the Megaformer.    

 

Melissa Rivers

Melissa Rivers

As a certified personal trainer for over 10 years, Melissa has experience in all aspects of the health and fitness industry. She received a B.S. in Kinesiology, majoring in exercise sciences and minoring in exercise leadership. After college, Melissa worked in physical therapy, cardiorespiratory rehab and pulmonary rehab, and in fitness management. In 2011, she graduated with a M.S. in Exercise Physiology and in 2015 she was awarded the Master Trainer status from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Melissa enjoys Ashtanga Yoga, weight training, Muay Thai, outdoor sports, and she competes with the National Physique Committee. 

Shortly after joining the Balance Gym family, Melissa was introduced to BalanceBurn and quickly fell in love with the Megaformer. Now teaching BalanceBurn and private Megaformer sessions, she is a true Balance Burn believer! Her favorite move on the Megaformer is a Reverse Bear with a push-up.
